Weight Loss Before Knee Surgery - July 2nd, 2009

Before you get knee replacement surgery, I would seriously suggest losing weight. It’s not like when you have to get throat cancer surgery, and my uncle decided to eat as much as he could to gain weight right before it even though he was already an overweight guy. That was still a stupid thing to do, but it’s worth with knee surgery. Your knees have often broken down, whatever the reason. The extra weight on them only makes it worse. I know this because my father was one of those that didn’t think about it beforehand. He also decided to get one knee done at a time, BIG MISTAKE. Just get both done at once, and then once you’re recovered, you’re recovered.

But whereas my great aunt got her knees replaced, and you should also do it only at an older age as they can only replace them so many times and they shave off a part of the bone each time they do it, and she actually was up and at it after about a month, my dad was down for a greater extended period of time two different times, and his knees have never quite healed right. They built up scar tissue multiple times, even with proper physical therapy, and even after healing and being bed ridden, obviously the pressure of weight has not been good for them. So while knee surgery makes it easier to function and exercise, lose weight before you do it.
