Exercising Too Much

July 17th, 2009

It’s hard sometimes to be motivated about working out. I mean for some of us it actually makes us physically ill. But let me suggest something. If you are actually getting physically ill from working out, you are going too hard, starting too fast. I knew a woman with a type of bulimia in college. Essentially she would eat, but then she would run until she threw up. It was extremely unhealthy, and she had to really cut back on workouts and control things to get past it. But while you may not be meaning to go to this extreme, you may be inevitably doing it to yourself.

In addition, remember to eat before you workout as you are burning off more calories and may be experiencing low blood sugar. In extreme cases, people have experienced what is essentially understood as a severe breakdown of the skeletal system. The skeletal system is sturdy and hard when we are young yes. But still, it can take too much pressure and you will end up hospitalized. In less severe cases, when you are still doing too much against your body, you will still feel sick as you might now. So cut your workout in half and see if that helps. It might not do the whole job at which time you will have to further tone down your workout. I suggest always starting out small, and remember the part about blood sugar.

The Power Of Eggs

July 7th, 2009

Eggs are one of the keys to good weight loss for many. Especially if you eat the egg whites, you can get quite a bit of protein and not so much of the fat, though the yolk has its own qualities that can help you to attain better health and weight loss. I’ve personally heard of some body builders that eat raw eggs on a regular basis for their workouts, and that is a little much for me. I have to wonder why not just boil the eggs.

Obviously, the nutrients aren’t going to escape through the shell. But apparently, it works for them. New research actually shows that they also contain various peptides that provide health and wellness as well as skin beauty among other things. These decrease with age and are responsible for quite a few things in terms of your health, beauty, etc. They have discovered many other elements such as embryonic tissue containing Humanofort-A, which is popularly marketed toward body builders for the most part. But it has the obvious benefits you are looking for, and of course this just illustrates that it may have more benefits for muscle building than previously recognized by the average individual.

Weight Loss Before Knee Surgery

July 2nd, 2009

Before you get knee replacement surgery, I would seriously suggest losing weight. It’s not like when you have to get throat cancer surgery, and my uncle decided to eat as much as he could to gain weight right before it even though he was already an overweight guy. That was still a stupid thing to do, but it’s worth with knee surgery. Your knees have often broken down, whatever the reason. The extra weight on them only makes it worse. I know this because my father was one of those that didn’t think about it beforehand. He also decided to get one knee done at a time, BIG MISTAKE. Just get both done at once, and then once you’re recovered, you’re recovered.

But whereas my great aunt got her knees replaced, and you should also do it only at an older age as they can only replace them so many times and they shave off a part of the bone each time they do it, and she actually was up and at it after about a month, my dad was down for a greater extended period of time two different times, and his knees have never quite healed right. They built up scar tissue multiple times, even with proper physical therapy, and even after healing and being bed ridden, obviously the pressure of weight has not been good for them. So while knee surgery makes it easier to function and exercise, lose weight before you do it.

The Reverse Diet

May 5th, 2009

In recent years, Trisha Cunningham authored a book and a diet plan known as the “reverse diet.” She claims that if you have had that “moment” when you realized that you were overweight, that you needed to lose weight, no matter what it may have been, you can use her diet to fulfill the need. She calls her approach a “reverse moment.”

Cunningham originally weighed in at 292 pounds. She had dealt with obesity for her whole life, and it was only in her 20’s that she decided to finally do something about it. She did not try to blame this on genes, but rather on family habits. For years and generations, she came from a family who had participated in unhealthy eating habits generation after generation and passing these habits on through each.

So at her moment, she took everything she knew about eating at that time and turned it around. Essentially speaking, instead of eating a big dinner, she turned that sizable meal into breakfast, and instead of eating a small breakfast, she turned what used to be her dinner into her breakfast portions. As for lunch, she made it a small and sensible meal plan. She only participated in light walking type exercise, and over time with this plan, she claims to have lost a total of 170 pounds.

In this diet plan, you are essentially eating the same amount of calories, unless of course two of your meals were sizable. Then you may be cutting some calories. But the idea behind it is not the calories, but rather the order. When you eat your calories early, you give your body the whole day to burn them off instead of giving your body only a few hours right before bedtime. Also, if you eat more of certain types of calories early in the day, you give yourself another benefit. You start your metabolism off right, filling your body and therefore reducing your appetite later in the day. So in truth, though you are eating more at first, you do stave off your appetite and actually consume fewer calories.

The biggest part of Cunningham’s success is not however the meal size or meal plan, but the fact that she plans ahead. She doesn’t leave it until the last minute only to turn to fast food or otherwise in a panic. Instead, she maps out her meals the day before, planning the exact sizes and plans. She makes sure that she gets a breakfast, and she makes sure that all her meals are sensible. By this, she avoids sabotaging herself.
